I visited the animal market in Jatinegara to collect data as material for an Exsitu Conservation course assignment. I visited a shop that sells a variety of wild animals. I was a shocked when I found a long-necked turtle (Charlodina mccordi) which has a Critically endangered status according to the IUCN Redlist and currently the trend of declining population is also being traded.

The seller gets wild animals from nature and some from captivity, animals that come from nature are obtained from the nearest local resident hunters. The price range for the animals being traded starts from IDR 50,000 (types of chicks) and the most expensive are monkeys, which are around IDR 1800,000.

For those of you who have a hobby of keeping wild animals, before buying, make sure the legality of the animals and the shop, make sure there is an original, legal certificate from the government.
