Muara Angke Wildlife Reserve (MAWR) and Angke Kapuk Protected Forest are one of the remaining natural conservation areas in the capital and the last mangrove forest in Jakarta. MAWR has an area of 25,02 Ha and Angke Kapuk Protected Forest area is 44,76 Ha. Both place not widely known to the public because these areas are surrounded by real estate. In fact, these areas are have important role to protect Jakarta sea and prevent from tide flooding.

These place have a lot well preserved biodiversity until now. Potential of the places make both of them as a favorite place to the birds. Around 117 birds species can found in both areas, among them there are two that internationally protected namely Java Bubut (Centropus nigrorufus) and White Jalak (Sturnus melanopterus). Both of that birds status are endangered species and critically endangered species.

Size of Java Bubut is 46 cm and dark colored. Head, back, beak, leg and the tail of Java Bubut also have shiny black color, meanwhile the wings are red rust color and iris is red. Their food are insect, snail, braid, small crab, bird egg, frog, and tree snake, all are their meal.

Java Bubut can be found in coastal marsh, sea fern shrubs, grassland around mangrove trees, also shrub and meadow in riverside. This bird is endemic species in Java island or only can be found in Java island.

In Jakarta, Java Bubut only found in MAWR and Angke Kapuk Protected Forest. Decreasing of Java Bubut habitat is the major threat for this bird life. The bird habitat in coastal area have high economic value if revamped to housing area, industrial area, or harbor.

In the other hand the White Jalak have size around 20-25 cm. In nature this bird mostly nesting in tree holes. White Jalak population today is sore, so there should be prevention action to protect White Jalak.

White Jalak is a critically endangered bird species based on IUCN categorization. In Muara Angke Wild Reserve, Jakarta the estimated population only 4-6 individu. This bird is a rare species that protected by Indonesian government.

Hopefully both of these two hidden treasure in Jakarta are everlasting.
