Student and Teacher Creativity in International Forest Day

School is the place for students to learn and develop their scientific thinking, so the student have inovative and creative skills. Beside that school also have important role to teach their student in order to care for the environment.

Celebrating the International Forest Day which is on 21 March, Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation (KEHATI) with their Biodiversity Warriors (BW) arrange a program. The program is the result of BW, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and Korea Indonesia Forest Center agreement. The project named BWGTS (Biodiversity Warriors Go to School).

There are five primary schools involved in BWGTS program namely Citra Alam School, Katolik Ricci II Bintaro Primary School, Meruyung Indonesian Nature School, Cipedak Indonesian Nature School, and Semut School The Natural School. The program involving primary school students to know more about biodiversity at their school surrounding, so in the end of program we can have each school green map created by their own.

Thursday 31 March 2016 was held the top event of BWGTS program. This event was attended by representatives from KLHK, Bogor Botanical Garden, then off course 80 students who came from five schools as their delegation. In the day every student was shown their school gren map creation.

After the top event, teacher from Semut School The Natural School voluntarily collect used cardboards. The cardboards then transformed into nice animal decorations by the students cute little hand of Semut The Natural School.

Mrs Ira is one of the teacher from Semut The Natural School said “After yesterday event I collect the used cardboards, instead of just being garbage it will be better that I recycle them to something valuable that I can teach to our student. Nah we can see here, there are all made by our students (while showing off the students creation)”. Teacher motivation plus students creativity will result in interesting and valuable creation. If we can improve also develop their unique creation it can make into zoo miniature.
