One new species has been added into the note list of Indonesian’s Biodiversity. The recently found species is petani's (petani is mean farmer in indonesian) bent-toed gecko. The name that is given to the gecko is based on the characteristics of its toe which bent and its habitat, the farm or rice field.
The petani’s bent-toed gecko has scientific name Cryctodatylus petani. Previously, C. petani is often disguised as C.fomosus species. After Awal Riyanto, a scientist from LIPI and two American scientist did a research about C. petani, it was found that C. petani has many morphological differences with C.fumosus.
Riyanto collects the sample of C. petani in some places such as on the paddy dike, the rocky farm area, the rocky riverside, on the trees in the farm side, and the teak forest. The farmer’s bent toed gecko is found in Porong riverside and Purwodadi Botanical Garden
Based on the research, they conclude that the gecko is a new species which is published on a journal of biotaxa.org Vol 4059, no 2 year 2015. The research shows that herpetofaunal research in java is highly needed to be learned. In fact, the research indicates that the diversity will stay exist even if it stays in human environment.
